"The militants are constantly trying to penetrate key military positions in order to prevent the implementation of the agreement reached in Sochi on the formation of a demilitarized zone," the source told Sputnik.
Accordingly, the rebel group tried to advance from Tall Şakhr and Janabir villages to army posts in Breidj military base and al-Mughira village.
"The army retaliated against these attack attempts on Thursday, the terrorist group also suffered heavy losses," the source said.
In September, the Russian and Turkish defense ministers signed a memorandum on stabilizing the situation in the escalating Idlib region and agreed to create a demilitarized zone in the area.
