"The militants are constantly trying to penetrate key military positions in order to prevent the implementation of the agreement reached in Sochi on the formation of a demilitarized zone," the source told Sputnik.
Accordingly, the rebel group attempted to advance from the villages of Tall Şakhr and Janabir to army posts at the Breidj military base and the village of al-Mughira.
"The army retaliated against these attacks on Thursday, causing heavy losses to the terrorist group," the source said.
In September, the defense ministers of Russia and Türkiye signed a memorandum on stabilizing the situation in the de-escalation zone in Idlib and agreed to create a demilitarized zone in the area.
