"The militants fired shells filled with chemical agents at Aleppo. Trump and Macron promised to strike, bomb and launch missiles at those using chemical weapons in Syria," the Russian senator reiterated.

However, according to him, "we should not expect such attacks by the Western alliance on terrorist bases, nor should we expect a declaration of outrage at the United Nations."

Earlier, the Syrian newspaper al-Watan reported that in the Syrian city of Aleppo the number of victims injured by militants firing bullets containing poison has reached 65.

Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said 46 people, including eight children, suffered chemical injuries. According to preliminary data, the shells fired at the site were filled with chlorine.
