Dang Van Lam's contract with Muangthong United is for three years, with a salary of over $10,000 per month. Immediately after the 2019 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese national team goalkeeper will travel to Thailand to join his new team.
Van Lam has just had a successful year in his career. He was the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded in the V-League 2018 and helped the Vietnamese national team win the AFF Cup. His impressive performance prompted Muangthong United to immediately make a big move to recruit him, by buying out the remaining year of Van Lam's contract with Hai Phong.
Previously, Hai Phong had rejected offers from clubs in Vietnam, China, and Indonesia. The club's leadership stated that Van Lam is currently the most popular player in the club and they wanted to keep him. However, the attractive offer from Muangthong United made them change their minds.
The Thai football giants will also offer Van Lam special treatment. In addition to his salary, he will be provided with a house and a private car. However, he will have to compete for the starting goalkeeper position with Kampol Pathom-attakul, Prasit Padungchok, and Sutthipong Pisansarb.
Van Lam is currently preparing with the Vietnamese national team for the Asian Cup, so he declined to comment on this transfer. According to coach Park Hang-seo's regulations, no player is allowed to speak without the coaching staff's approval.
