On February 23, Venezuela severed diplomatic and political relations with Bogota. The Colombian government promised to withdraw its diplomats from Venezuela as soon as possible. Caracas gave embassy staff 24 hours to leave the country.
Tensions in relations between the two countries have arisen due to the situation surrounding the provision of US humanitarian aid from Colombia to Venezuela.
