Residents were immediately evacuated following the shelter warning, and schools were closed. Israeli fighter jets immediately launched airstrikes in response overnight, targeting two Hamas targets in Gaza.

On March 26, the Israeli army had to deploy tanks and reinforcements to the Gaza border, as a precautionary measure.
