(Baonghean.vn) - For many years now, the Dinh River section passing through Quy Hop district has been suffering from serious pollution from household waste due to people indiscriminately dumping waste into the riverbed. Meanwhile, the local government has not yet found a solution to completely prevent this situation.

Following the road along Dinh River, the border between Chau Dinh Commune and Quy Hop Town during the dry season, one cannot help but be startled by the piles of garbage piled up in the middle of the river.

From solid waste to other bags of household garbage, people dump them all over the Dinh River, blocking the flow of the river, causing environmental pollution.

“Every night, people from all over gather their garbage at Chau Dinh overflow bridge. During the hot season, the stench is unbearable. We, the people, have reported it at many meetings but have not seen a solution to solve the problem.”

In the Hop Thanh block area - Quy Hop town, people opened a trail from National Highway 48D down to Dinh River for convenient dumping of garbage, causing the water to flow into a trash mound in the middle of the river.

Discussing this situation, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quynh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quy Hop town confirmed that the town government is aware of the situation of people dumping household waste into Dinh River. The People's Committee of the town has repeatedly propagated and mobilized people to raise awareness of environmental protection and not to litter indiscriminately, but has not yet completely prevented it.

"Currently, we are deploying forces to detect and handle cases of dumping garbage into Dinh River; at the same time, we are mobilizing people to denounce those who intentionally dump garbage illegally," Mr. Nguyen Thanh Quynh added.

Mr. Le Sy Hao - Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Quy Hop district said: "Faced with the situation of people dumping garbage into Dinh river, the District People's Committee has directed and assigned Chau Dinh commune and town to take responsibility for preventing people from dumping garbage into Dinh river.

"The current difficulty is that the construction of the Quy Hop district landfill is slow. The main construction of the road and power lines is currently underway. When the landfill is completed and put into use, the problem of waste flowing into the Dinh River will be solved," added Mr. Le Sy Hao.

The Dinh River is currently at an alarming level of garbage pollution. The local authorities of Quy Hop district need to quickly find solutions to prevent people from dumping garbage into the Dinh River. In addition to propaganda and mobilization, it is time for the local authorities to apply strong measures to restore the cleanliness of the Dinh River.
