According to the magazine, three 125-caliber 2A82 guns have been produced since 2003 and have been tested. 2A82 can fire with a new type of 900 mm long section. According to the publication, the speed of the projectile is 2 km/s and at this distance, with an energy of 15 megajoules, the projectile can penetrate 900-1000 mm thick armor.
The author of the article came to the conclusion that if this information is correct, then Russian medium-range tank ammunition will hit Western tanks “with high reliability”. The battle tanks mentioned here are the American Abrams, the German Leopard-2 and the British Challenger-2.
The 2A82 gun is planned to be mounted on Russian T-72 and T-90 tanks, but this data has not been confirmed, the publication adds. It was decided to mount the new gun on the T-14 Armata tank, but this type of tank is currently not widely used in military units, the National Interest adds.
