Russian engineers have been able to create armor-piercing bullets that pose a threat to Western tanks. This is stated in an article in The National Interest titled "Russia has a 'bullet' that can destroy the best American tanks".

According to the magazine, three 125-caliber 2A82 guns have been produced since 2003 and have passed fire tests. 2A82 can fire with a new type of 900 mm long section. According to the publication, the speed of the projectile is 2 km/s and at this distance, with an energy of 15 megajoules, the projectile can penetrate armor 900-1000 mm thick.

The author of the article came to the conclusion that if this information is correct, then the Russian medium-range tank ammunition will hit Western tanks “with high reliability”. The battle tanks mentioned here are the American “Abrams”, the German “Leopard-2” and the British “Challenger-2”.

The 2A82 gun is planned to be installed on Russian T-72 and T-90 tanks, but this data has not been confirmed, the publication adds. The new gun was decided to be installed on the T-14 Armata tank, but this tank is not yet in service with many military units, the National Interest adds.
