The Government Inspectorate was asked to join the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance in examining the 8.36% increase in electricity prices from March 20.

The Government Office has just sent a document to the relevant ministries regarding the adjustment of retail electricity prices from March 20. Accordingly, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc requested the Government Inspectorate to preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance to inspect the adjustment of electricity prices, the method of calculating prices and the collection of electricity bills in the past time. These agencies are responsible for clarifying the right and wrong of the electricity price increase and reporting to the Prime Minister in June 2019.

The Prime Minister's decision came after complaints about the sudden increase in electricity bills in April due to the average retail electricity price increasing by 8.36% from March 20.

Many consumers were surprised to receive electricity bills in April that increased dramatically compared to March. Explaining this phenomenon, the electricity industry gave three reasons: hot weather, increased electricity consumption by households, and partly due to increased retail electricity prices.
