Attending the ceremony were Mr. Vu Chien Thang - Head of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs; Most Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Permanent Vice President of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Venerables, senior monks, nuns and nearly 6,000 Buddhists.

Also attending from Nghe An province were comrade Nguyen Van Huy - Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Nghe An province; representatives of the Provincial Party Committee's Mass Mobilization Committee, Provincial Police, Provincial People's Committee Office, and Department of Home Affairs.

During the official ceremony, Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu - Vice PresidentThe Standing Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha read the Buddha's Birthday Message of Buddhist calendar 2563 of Most Venerable Thich Pho Tue - Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha; Most Venerable Thich Tho Lac - Deputy Head of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Nghe An province read the welcoming speech for the United Nations Day of Vesak 2019, the Nghe An Lotus Festival 2019, commemorating the 129th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh; and approved the report on the construction of Can Linh Pagoda, phase I.

Vesak is a rare event associated with the life of Buddha (the day of Buddha's birth, enlightenment and nirvana all took place on the full moon day of the fourth lunar month).

Vesak Festival, also known as the Three Harmonies Festival, is held to honor and promote the values ​​of the heritage that Buddha left behind, which are wisdom, compassion, the philosophy of selflessness, the spirit of non-violence, peace and sustainable development.

In 2019, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha is honored to be the host country of the 16th United Nations Vesak Celebration, which will take place from May 12-14 in Ha Nam province.

Đại lễ sẽ tập trung trao đổi nhiều vấn đề, trong đó có cách tiếp cận của Phật giáo về sự lãnh đạo toàn cầu và trách nhiệm cùng chia sẻ vì xã hội bền vững; về gia đình hòa hợp, chăm sóc sức khỏe; về giáo dục đạo đức; cách mạng công nghiệp 4.0 và Phật giáo.

Trong chuỗi hoạt động hướng tới Đại lễ Vesak Liên hợp quốc 2019, Lễ hội Hương Sen Xứ Nghệ 2019 là một hoạt động quan trọng. Lễ hội nhằm tôn vinh các giá trị tốt đẹp, nhân văn của con người và Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh là người tiêu biểu nhất. Lễ hội thực hiện các hoạt động tri ân Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh cùng những anh hùng liệt sĩ đã hy sinh vì sự độc lập, tự do của đất nước.

Chào mừng Đại lễ, Lễ hội, Ban Trị sự Phật giáo Nghệ An cũng tiến hành lễ khánh thành Đại hùng Bảo Điện Tổ đình Cần Linh...

Chùa Cần Linh còn có tên gọi là chùa Cổ Linh Vân, Tổ đình Cần Linh, Chùa Sư Nữ. Chùa Cần Linh nằm bên Quốc lộ 1A, thuộc khối 10, phường Cửa Nam, thành phố Vinh, được xây dựng vào thể kỷ 9 sau Công nguyên.

Lịch sử của chùa gắn liền với lịch sử Phật giáo Xứ Nghệ. Ở chùa còn đang lưu giữ nhiều hiện vật quý. Ngày 21/1/1992, Bộ Văn hóa Thông tin có quyết định công nhận chùa Cần Linh là Di tích lịch sử - Văn hóa Quốc...Trải qua thời gian, chùa xuống cấp và đã được tiến hành trùng tu, xây dựng lại vào đầu năm 2017.

Tại buổi chính lễ, ông Vũ Chiến Thắng đã trao tặng 3 viên xá lợi Phật cho chùa Cần Linh. Ban tổ chức buổi lễ cử hành nghi lễ tắm phật; cung rước cắt băng khánh thành và an vị xá lợi Phật; thả chim phóng sinh; trao quà từ thiện và tặng bằng công đức.
