Foods you absolutely should not put in the freezer
Many people often put food in the freezer to preserve it longer, but some foods will spoil or lose quality if done that way.
1. Milk
Unfortunately, milk stored in the freezer can separate into chunks and liquids when thawed. It is still safe, but it is not a healthy addition to your morning cereal or coffee.
2. Fried foods
Fried foods will lose their crispiness if you freeze leftovers. And of course, no one wants fried food that turns out soft and mushy.
3. Eggs still in their shells
Putting eggs in the shell in the freezer is a bad idea. The water content inside the egg expands when frozen, which can cause the outer shell to crack and become vulnerable to bacteria.
If you want to freeze your eggs, always remove them from the shell, beat them until well blended, and store in an airtight container.
4. Soft cheese
Storing soft cheeses in the freezer will have the same effect as storing dairy in them. When eaten, the water content often ruins the texture, common examples include cream cheese, sour cream, and ricotta.
5. Thawed meat
If you take raw meat out of the freezer, never put it back in the freezer. Frozen and thawed food can attract potentially harmful bacteria faster than meat that has not been frozen. It is best to cook the meat to the proper temperature and eat it or put it back in the freezer after you have cooked away all the bacteria.
6. Green vegetables and fruits
You should not put any kind of fruit or raw vegetables in the freezer because when exposed to very low temperatures, the water inside fresh food will quickly turn into ice crystals. And when thawed, fruits and vegetables will become soft, soggy and lose their original flavor and nutrition.
7. Pasta
Many people recommend making your dinner ahead of time and freezing it so that you can just reheat it at the end of a busy day and have a delicious dinner. This is a good idea, but you should not freeze pasta. The freezing process will damage the texture of the pasta and turn it into a slimy paste.
8. Garlic
Garlic tends to become pungent and bitter once frozen. If you decide to freeze garlic, be aware that its flavor may cause some discomfort when eaten and digested.
