(Baonghean.vn) - Every year on the 20th day of the 8th lunar month, people in Tien Ky commune, Tan Ky district, joyfully celebrate Buon Xao Festival. For generations, Buon Xao Festival has been a beautiful cultural tradition of the Thai people living at the foot of Pu Pan.

According to the Thai people in Tien Ky, "Buon Xao" means Tet on August 20. This Tet originates from the tradition of drinking water and remembering its source, the belief in worshipping the Mother Goddess and the history of the local struggle to defend the country. On the Buon Xao Tet, there is an indispensable dish called mooc. On this occasion, every family competes to wrap and cook mooc to prepare for Tet.

Banh mooc, made from dong leaves, sticky rice, meat, wild vegetables... is a long-standing traditional dish of the Thai people. According to legend, banh mooc was also an item that local people used to treat Le Loi's army during the resistance war against the Ming army in the 15th century. According to history, Le Loi's army stopped at Pu Pan for about 2 months to recruit and train soldiers.

For the Thai people in Tien Ky, mooc cake is an indispensable item during the Buon Xao Tet holiday. This is an offering to the gods and a special dish on the Tet tray.

During the Buon Xao New Year, Thai women often wear their most beautiful costumes to express their ethnic identity.

To commemorate the merits of their ancestors, on the Buon Xao festival, Thai people often hold ancestral worship ceremonies in their families and at the family temples. To express gratitude for the Le Loi army's contributions to the country and to show pride in their homeland's traditions, on this holiday, local people also solemnly organize many meaningful festival activities, especially the procession of the Gods to the top of Pu Pan, where the Le Loi citadel is located.
Every time Tet Buon Xao comes, the Thai people in Tien Ky joyfully hold a gong and drum festival. Families with gong and drum sets set up on their porches for everyone to join in the fun.
Like other solemn holidays, the Buon Xao Tet cannot lack the bamboo dance, the drumming, and the singing of Thai folk songs with smooth and attractive melodies.

Buon Xao Tet has entered the consciousness of the Thai people in Tien Ky as the most important traditional holiday of the year, carrying its own beauty in the traditional culture of the Thai people living at the foot of Pu Pan.
