(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 16, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh inspected the flooding and drainage situation in Vinh City.

Next, the Delegation inspected the Southern Drainage Pumping Station (Cau Den Pumping Station, Trung Do Ward, Vinh City). All 6 pumps with a capacity of 9,500m3/h/pump were operating at full capacity to drain water.

However, according to the report of the authorities, the rainfall in Vinh City on October 15 and 16 has been nearly 1,000mm, the largest in the past decades, while the average annual rainfall in Vinh City is about 2,000mm. On October 16 alone, the rainfall was over 700mm, with a time in 1 hour when the rainfall was up to 110mm. Therefore, the amount of water could not be drained in time.

The Provincial Party Secretary requested Vinh city and relevant agencies to focus on solutions to speed up water drainage for the city.

Many areas in Hong Son and Vinh Tan wards were deeply flooded, especially in the Vinh market area. The Provincial Party Secretary directly inspected the drainage pumping station after Vinh market to Vinh river and went to Vinh market area to check the flooding situation, accordingly, many roads around the market were flooded about 1.2m deep at 3:00 p.m. The authorities mobilized forces and canoes to evacuate people and goods.

To respond to and overcome the consequences of floods in Vinh City, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh requested that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the standing agency of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, must grasp the situation and proactively advise the provincial leaders to promptly handle situations arising in the area.

Vinh City will coordinate with relevant departments, agencies and sectors of the province to respond to and overcome the consequences of floods, take measures to quickly drain water; support people to overcome damage; ensure security, order and traffic safety, especially pay attention to guiding, dividing traffic flows and warning people to participate in traffic safely.

A quick report from the Vinh City People's Committee showed that by 2:00 p.m. on October 16, traffic on all main roads in Vinh City was almost flooded from 30 to 60 cm, such as: Phan Boi Chau Street was flooded about 70 cm, Le Ninh Street, Ly Thuong Kiet Street was flooded up to 1 meter deep, Truong Chinh Street was flooded 0.6 meter.

Tran Hung Dao Street is flooded about 0.8m, Le Huan Street is flooded 0.5m... The area behind Vinh market, Dang Thai Than Street, the water is over 1m deep, Lenin Avenue is flooded about 0.8m, Nguyen Van Cu Street is 0.6m...

Many blocks and hamlets were also flooded from 30 - 50 cm such as block 12, Cua Nam ward; blocks 1, 14, 15, Trung Do ward were flooded up to 1 meter; blocks 1, 13, 14, 15, Nghi Kim commune were flooded 0.8 meter; blocks 13, 15, Ben Thuy ward were flooded up to 1.4 meter. Ben Thuy ward authorities are evacuating people from deep flooded areas.

Notably, prolonged heavy rains led to landslides in the Quyết mountain area. Latest update, 3 houses were partially damaged by landslides, many others were at risk of collapse. Authorities have evacuated people and moved 20 households to safety. Regarding agricultural production, 4 hectares of rice, 79.3 hectares of vegetables, and 369.36 hectares of aquaculture are currently flooded.
