The Provincial Party Secretary inspects the flooded areas in Vinh City.
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of October 16th, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh inspected the flooding situation and drainage efforts in Vinh City.
Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh inspected the water pumping and drainage situation at the Ben Thuy dam. At the dam, all 10 gates were open to drain water. At 2:30 PM, the water level inside and outside the dam differed by more than 30 cm, facilitating drainage.

Next, the delegation inspected the Southern Drainage Pumping Station (Cau Den Pumping Station, Trung Do Ward, Vinh City). All six pumps, each with a capacity of 9,500 m3/h, were operating at full capacity to drain the water.

However, according to reports from authorities, rainfall in Vinh City on October 15th and 16th has reached nearly 1000mm, the highest in decades, while the average annual rainfall in Vinh City is around 2000mm. On October 16th alone, rainfall exceeded 700mm, with at one point reaching 110mm in just one hour. Therefore, drainage is insufficient.
The Provincial Party Secretary requested Vinh City and relevant agencies to focus on solutions to expedite drainage for the city.
Many areas in Hong Son and Vinh Tan wards were deeply flooded, especially around Vinh Market. The Provincial Party Secretary personally inspected the pumping station draining water from behind Vinh Market into the Vinh River and checked the flooding situation in the market area. At 3 PM, several roads around the market were flooded to a depth of about 1.2 meters. Authorities mobilized personnel and boats to evacuate people and goods.

To respond to and mitigate the consequences of flooding in Vinh City, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh requested that the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, as the standing agency of the Provincial Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue, must closely monitor the situation and proactively advise provincial leaders on timely handling of emerging situations in the area.
Meanwhile, Vinh City is taking the lead in coordinating with relevant departments and agencies of the province to respond to and mitigate the consequences of the floods, implementing measures for rapid drainage; supporting people in overcoming damage; ensuring security, order, and traffic safety, paying particular attention to guiding, diverting, and warning people to participate in traffic safely.
According to a quick report from the Vinh City People's Committee, as of 2 PM on October 16th, traffic on almost all major roads in Vinh City was flooded with water levels ranging from 30 to 60 cm, such as: Phan Boi Chau Street flooded to about 70 cm, Le Ninh Street and Ly Thuong Kiet Street flooded to a depth of 1 meter, and Truong Chinh Street flooded to 0.6 meters.Tran Hung Dao Street was flooded to a depth of about 0.8m, Le Huan Street to 0.5m... In the area behind Vinh Market, Dang Thai Than Street was flooded to a depth of over 1m, Lenin Boulevard to about 0.8m, Nguyen Van Cu Street to 0.6m...

Many neighborhoods and hamlets were also flooded with water levels ranging from 30 to 50 cm, such as in Block 12 of Cua Nam Ward; Blocks 1, 14, and 15 of Trung Do Ward were flooded up to 1 meter; Blocks 1, 13, 14, and 15 of Nghi Kim Commune were flooded to 0.8 meters; and Blocks 13 and 15 of Ben Thuy Ward were flooded up to 1.4 meters. The Ben Thuy Ward authorities are currently relocating residents from the deeply flooded areas.

Notably, prolonged heavy rain has led to landslides in the Quyet mountain area. The latest update indicates that three houses have been partially damaged by landslides, and many others are at risk of collapse. Authorities have evacuated residents and relocated 20 households to safe areas. Regarding agricultural production, 4 hectares of rice, 79.3 hectares of vegetables, and 369.36 hectares of aquaculture are currently flooded.
