More than 16,400 people have died from COVID-19 globally.
The number of deaths from nCoV continues to rise rapidly in Europe, bringing the global death toll to over 16,400 among more than 378,000 infected people.
Covid-19 has appeared in 195 countries and territories. Italy, Spain, France, and the United States have the highest number of deaths in a single day.

ItalyItaly, the largest outbreak region in Europe and the second largest in the world, has recorded 63,927 infections and 6,077 deaths, an increase of 4,789 and 601 cases respectively. The death rate in the country is approximately 9.5%, double the global average. An aging population and overloaded hospitals are two of the reasons why the death rate in Italy is particularly high.
TSpainSpain is the second-largest outbreak region in Europe with 35,136 confirmed cases and 2,311 deaths, an increase of 6,368 and 539 cases respectively compared to the previous day. The Spanish government imposed a nationwide lockdown after declaring a 15-day state of emergency, starting on March 14th. Approximately 46 million people are required to stay at home, only allowed to go out for work, to buy food, to pharmacies, hospitals, or other emergencies.
VirtueGermany recorded an additional 4,183 infections and 29 deaths, bringing the total to 29,056 and 123 respectively. Despite being the fifth largest outbreak in the world and the third largest in Europe, the death rate in the country is only about 0.42%. Steffen Seibert, spokesman for German Chancellor Angela Merkel, announced that the first test result showed Merkel was negative for the coronavirus after contact with an infected doctor.
Europe currently reports more than 10,000 deaths from COVID-19, accounting for approximately 62% of global deaths.
InMỹAn additional 9,883 new cases were identified, bringing the total number of Covid-19 cases nationwide to 43,449, with 545 deaths, an increase of 132 cases compared to the previous day. The delays in Covid-19 screening campaigns in general, and the shortage of continuous testing sites in particular, have made it difficult for public health officials to monitor the rate of spread and control the outbreak.
IranIt remains the second-largest outbreak area in Asia, after mainland China, with 23,049 infections and 1,812 deaths. It also has one of the highest death rates, partly due to its healthcare system being heavily impacted by sanctions.

In Southeast Asia,MalaysiaIt is currently the largest outbreak area with 1,518 infected people and 14 deaths.IndonesiaIt reported the highest number of deaths in the region, with 49 deaths among 579 infected people.
In total, the world recorded nearly 1,900 additional deaths, mostly in European countries, bringing the total number of deaths from COVID-19 to 16,490. Meanwhile, 101,584 people, or 26.8% of infected cases, have recovered. Turks and Caicos Islands, Belize, and Myanmar are among the countries and territories where the outbreak has recently appeared.
