Nghe An province receives nearly 9 billion VND in investment to address traffic black spots.
(Baonghean.vn) - Based on surveys, documentation, and recommendations from the province, the General Department of Roads (Ministry of Transport) has agreed to invest 8.7 billion VND to help Nghe An province address and resolve 5 accident black spots on national highways.
Specifically: 3.1 billion VND will be allocated to address traffic accident hotspots at km 26 and km 27 + 486 on National Highway 7C in Do Luong district, including the intersection at km 26 where National Highway 7C intersects with the district road, and the intersection at km 27 + 486 where National Highway 7C intersects with the district road; 3.8 billion VND will be allocated to address traffic accident hotspots at km 35 on National Highway 48 in Thai Hoa town, including the intersection of National Highway 46 with inner-city routes; and 1.8 billion VND will be allocated to address hotspots at km 285 + 176 and km 308 + 600 of National Highway 15 in Do Luong district, including the intersection of National Highway 15 with Provincial Road 534 and the intersection at km 308 + 600 where National Highway 15 intersects with National Highway 7.

The common feature of these accident black spots is that they are all busy intersections with high traffic density and many large trucks, but with narrow curves and obstructed visibility, leading to numerous traffic accidents resulting in many deaths and injuries.

For accident-prone areas on National Highway 7C and National Highway 15 through Do Luong, the General Department of Roads requires the addition and strengthening of traffic safety systems by painting speed bumps, center lines, and markings, installing signs indicating intersections with priority roads for road users to observe; widening curves, harmonizing the transitions between branches, installing traffic lights, lighting, drainage systems, and supplementing traffic safety systems.

For the intersection of National Highway 48 at the six-way junction in Thai Hoa town, the plan involves adjusting and reorganizing traffic in the intersection area, addressing localized connections between the branches, installing traffic lights, enhancing lighting, and supplementing the traffic safety system.
Mr. Vo Minh Duc, Chief of the Office of the Traffic Safety Committee of Nghe An province, said that in addition to addressing the aforementioned accident black spots, according to the plan, in 2020, the BOT contractor will also maintain, repair, and invest in addressing several other black spots on National Highway 1A. Currently, the Department of Transport is preparing investment documents for construction to begin in 2020; advising the province and assigning localities to allocate funds for compensation and land clearance. We are also continuing to finalize the dossiers for the remaining black spots to submit for investment permits and funding to quickly address and resolve these black spots, minimizing traffic accidents.
