General Secretary and President appoints 9 Ambassadors, works with 30 Vietnamese Ambassadors and Consuls General abroad

On the morning of October 21, at the Presidential Palace, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong presented the appointment decisions of 9 new ambassadors and received more than 30 Vietnamese ambassadors and consuls general abroad for the 2020-2023 term.

Also attending the reception were Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; Party Central Committee member, Head of the Office of the President Dao Viet Trung.

The nine Vietnamese Ambassadors abroad, for the 2020-2023 term, appointed this time include: Dang Minh Khoi, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Russian Federation; Nguyen Van Thao, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Union (EU); Mai Phuoc Dung, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Republic of Singapore; Dinh Toan Thang, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Republic of France; Nguyen Trung Kien, Ambassador of Vietnam to Austria; Nguyen Thi Bich Thao, Ambassador of Vietnam to Hungary; Pham Truong Giang, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Republic of Chile; Ho Thi Thanh Truc, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka; and Le Hong Truong, Ambassador of Vietnam to the Republic of Greece.

Next, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong cordially received Ambassadors and Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad who were preparing to depart for their new duties.

The 2020 appointment includes 31 Vietnamese Ambassadors and Consuls General abroad, representing the Vietnamese State in 42 countries and international organizations in all regions of the world.

Many areas are important to the country's security and development; including 1 comprehensive strategic partner, 6 strategic partners, 3 comprehensive partners, many traditional friendly countries and countries with long-standing and profound bilateral relations with Vietnam.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong congratulated the appointed comrades, emphasizing that this is a great honor and at the same time a very heavy responsibility entrusted by the Party, State and people.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong analyzed the regional and world situation, opportunities and challenges facing the cause of national construction and protection; hoped that Ambassadors and Consuls General should promote the tradition of solidarity and mutual love of the Vietnamese people; seek support and assistance from international friends, and successfully complete assigned political tasks.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong emphasized: Foreign affairs branches need to strengthen coordination, solidarity and unity, promote combined strength: Party diplomacy, State diplomacy, people's diplomacy, in all fields of politics, economy, culture... both bilaterally and multilaterally, successfully complete foreign affairs tasks, putting national and ethnic interests above all.

General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong noted the need to thoroughly grasp and consistently implement the foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization of foreign relations, being a friend, a reliable partner, and a responsible member of the international community.

In each period and moment, facing the complex and rapid developments of the world situation, it is necessary to firmly grasp the policies and guidelines of the Party and State, put national and ethnic interests above all, "remain constant, respond to all changes," effectively resolve work, and make an important contribution to the common cause of the Party and the nation.

In the atmosphere of preparing for the 13th National Party Congress, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong hopes that Ambassadors and Heads of Vietnamese representative agencies abroad will have a more far-sighted vision, do better research work, understand the situation correctly, forecast development prospects, and propose strategic issues.building foreign policies and guidelines of the Party and Statesharp contributions to the drafting of documents for the 13th National Party Congress.
