National Congress of Ethnic Minorities: A special symbol of the great solidarity of Vietnamese ethnic groups
This morning (December 4), in Hanoi, the 2nd National Congress of Ethnic Minorities officially opened. This is an event of important political and social significance, a special symbol of the great solidarity of the Vietnamese ethnic groups.
Attending the Congress were Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, former General Secretary Nong Duc Manh, former President Tran Duc Luong, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, Standing member of the Secretariat Tran Quoc Vuong, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Tran Thanh Man and other leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, ministries, sectors and localities.

Taking place 10 years after the first one, this Congress has the theme "Under the glorious flag of the Party, all ethnic groups are equal, united, respect, help each other, promote internal strength and develop together with the country" with 1,593 official delegates representing 54 ethnic groups.
Our country has 54 ethnic groups, of which 53 areethnic minority(DTTS) with more than 14 million people, accounting for 14.7% of the country's population. Ethnic minorities live in communities, intertwined with the majority ethnic groups in 51 provinces and cities, mainly in mountainous and border areas with particularly difficult socio-economic conditions; are particularly important strategic areas in terms of politics, socio-economics, national defense-security, foreign affairs and ecological environment.
Each ethnic group has its own cultural nuances, creating diversity, richness, uniqueness, and unity in the Vietnamese national culture. The ethnic minority community is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation, all are "Descendants of the Dragon and the Fairy" living together in harmony; wholeheartedly following the Party, standing shoulder to shoulder in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland.

Since the 1st National Congress of Ethnic Minorities (2010) up to now, our Party and State have continued to pay special attention and prioritize investment in socio-economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of our people.
According to the draft report of the Congress, the goal set by 2025 is to strive for the average income of ethnic minorities to increase by more than 2 times compared to 2020; by 2030 it will be half of the national average.
The poverty rate among ethnic minorities decreases by over 3% each year; by 2030, the poverty rate will be reduced to below 10% (according to current multidimensional poverty standards).
By 2025, basically complete the work of settling down; arrange and relocate 90% of households that migrated without planning. By 2030, plan to arrange, relocate and relocate 100% of ethnic minority households currently residing scattered in special-use forests, remote areas, and places at risk of flash floods, landslides.
