(Baonghean.vn) - The agricultural sector continues to consider the development of safe agricultural, forestry, and aquatic food supply chains as a breakthrough step to improve the effectiveness of quality management and food safety in the agricultural sector.

In Nghe An province, there are currently 1,500 establishments trading in fertilizers, pesticides, and plant seeds; the number of production and supply units for fertilizers, as well as the types of pesticides circulating in the market, and the volume of fertilizers used annually on major crops are very large.

The entire province has 305 veterinary drug trading establishments with more than 1,000 types of drugs permitted for circulation.

There are 7 feed production plants and over 600 retail outlets selling animal feed, with an estimated sales volume of over 50,000 tons per year within the province, worth hundreds of billions of VND. These establishments are primarily small-scale traders.

The province has approximately 23,748 establishments producing and trading agricultural, forestry, and aquatic products. Of these, 2,144 are managed at the provincial level, and 21,604 are managed at the district and commune levels, and are establishments subject to food safety commitment agreements as stipulated.

In 2020, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development focused on monitoring the quality of agricultural inputs and the safety of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic food products. It organized the signing of commitments according to Circular 17/2018 for nearly 9,650 establishments, reaching 42%; conducted over 500 inspections at nearly 4,700 establishments, and fined 235 establishments with a total amount exceeding 1.7 billion VND. It implemented the development and evaluation of certification for 18 safe production models; agricultural processing and trade promotion activities showed significant improvements and positive results; and over 100 OCOP products were recognized with 3-4 stars.
At the conference, delegates pointed out several existing shortcomings. These included the continued presence of substandard and unsafe food; numerous inadequacies in livestock and poultry slaughtering; and significant limitations in post-harvest processing and preservation.

In his concluding remarks at the conference, Mr. Nguyen Van De, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, stated: Managing the quality of agricultural inputs and ensuring food safety in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries is a very important activity that the sector will prioritize and continue to implement in the coming period.
