Pretending to be a police officer to stay in the same room to cheat money

(Baonghean.vn) - After being scammed out of money by a roommate who claimed to be a police officer, Mr. L.D.T reported the incident to the authorities.

At about 10:30 a.m. on May 11, Trung Do Ward Police, Vinh City arrested Thai Van Ly, born in 1997, residing in Hamlet 8, Phuc Trach Commune, Huong Khe (Ha Tinh), for the act ofimpersonating a police officer, fraud and appropriation of property.

Previously, on the afternoon of May 10, 2021, Mr. Luong Dinh T. went to Trung Do Ward Police to accuse Thai Van Ly of defrauding him of 2 million VND. Specifically: Thai Van Ly claimed to be a police officer and asked to stay in the same room with Mr. T. Because he saw that Ly had a full uniform, shoes, belt, lieutenant rank badge, CAND insignia and a pair of handcuffs, Mr. T. trusted him very much.

On April 29, 2021, Mr. T. lost a motorbike and asked Ly to contact him to find it. Thai Van Ly then told Mr. T. that the Vinh City Police had found the motorbike he had lost and asked T. to give him 2 million VND to get the motorbike back. After a while of giving the money, Ly did not return the motorbike, so Mr. T. became suspicious and reported it to the police.

Upon receiving the crime report, Trung Do Ward Police investigated, verified and arrested Thai Van Ly.impersonationPolice, fraud and property appropriation. Searching Ly's residence in block 6, Trung Do ward, the police force seized many pieces of evidence including: People's Police uniform, shoes, belt, lieutenant rank badge, CAND insignia, 1 pair of handcuffs and 1 fake People's Police ID card.

At the police station, Thai Van Ly admitted to impersonating a police officer and defrauding his victims. Accordingly, Ly purchased police uniforms online and learned about the work procedures of police officers to gain their trust.

Currently, Trung Do Ward Police have handed over the subject and evidence to Vinh City Police for investigation and handling according to authority./.
