(Baonghean.vn) - Bang Quoc Khanh bought a police uniform, took pictures and posted them on social media, and rented a "four-of-a-kind" SIM card to scam many people, stealing more than half a billion dong.

On August 2, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a first-instance criminal trial of defendant Bành Quốc Khánh (born in 1993), from Nghe An province, residing in Phước An town, Krông Pắk district, Đắk Lắk province, for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

In particular, Khanh committed 14 frauds against Mr. Nguyen VD (residing in Nghia Dan district) by selling jackfruit wood. To make Mr. D. trust him, Khanh sent pictures and videos of jackfruit trees for sale at cheap prices. Although he was a businessman, because he was gullible, Mr. D. transferred 310 million VND to Khanh 14 times.

Bang Quoc Khanh also ordered a police uniform online with the rank of Lieutenant, then claimed to be an officer of the Immigration Department, Nghe An Provincial Police, to defraud Ms. TTT (Hoang Mai town) of 200 million VND. The form of Khanh's fraud was to "brag" about being able to auction a plot of land for Ms. T. in Quynh Lap commune. Trusting Khanh's "label" as a police officer, Ms. T. gave money and lost everything.

In addition, Khanh also scammed two other people in Ha Tinh by renting beautiful "four-of-a-kind" SIM numbers and then tricked them into running construction projects.

At the trial, the defendant admitted to the crime. Khanh said he had spent all the money he had swindled. In front of the victims, the defendant apologized.

Considering the defendant's behavior as dangerous to society, having repeatedly committed fraud and appropriated large sums of money, the panel sentenced Bành Quốc Khánh to 10 years in prison. The court also ordered the defendant to return the amount of money he had appropriated to the victims (minus the amount of compensation he had paid).
