This morning (March 7), Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with outstanding female leaders, managers, intellectuals and artists on the occasion of International Women's Day, March 8. Also attending were Head of the Central Commission for Mass Mobilization Bui Thi Minh Hoai; Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan and outstanding female leaders, managers, intellectuals and artists.

At the meeting, in a friendly, warm and meaningful atmosphere to celebrate the 112th anniversary of International Women's Day, March 8, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, on behalf of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and leaders of the Party and State, sent warm greetings, thoughtful inquiries and wishes for health, youth, happiness and success to outstanding female leaders, managers, intellectuals and artists, and women across the country.

The Prime Minister emphasized that in the world, there are more and more women in the ranks of leaders, managers, intellectuals and artists who have an influence on society. This is not only important for the issue of gender equality on a global scale but also has important significance, making a positive contribution to the development of countries, organizations, communities, societies... on the path towards civilization and prosperity. Many female leaders with their qualities and flexible and skillful nature have solved big, important issues of national and international significance in a flexible and effective manner. In addition, with their intelligence, soul and kindness, many female intellectuals and artists have created works and works of great value, spreading throughout the world. In our country, Vietnam, since the dawn of the history of building and defending the country, our women have upheld the spirit of patriotism and indomitability.

“The eight golden words “Heroic, Indomitable, Loyal, and Responsible” that beloved Uncle Ho bestowed upon Vietnamese women are a profound summary of the ardent patriotism, intelligence, creativity, compassion, and great sacrifice of Vietnamese women in the cause of building and defending the Fatherland. That fine tradition is the pride of Vietnamese women in the international women’s community, and is the source of continuity for generations. Today, regardless of their circumstances and positions in work or employment, Vietnamese women always uphold their traditional values ​​and good qualities, solidarity, intelligence, dynamism, creativity, compassion, “good at public affairs, good at home affairs” – making great contributions to the cause of innovation, integration, and national development,” the Prime Minister stated.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister expressed special gratitude to female doctors, medical staff and women on the front line against the Covid-19 pandemic over the past 2 years who have not been afraid of difficulties and hardships, put aside their personal joys for the common mission, and silently sacrificed to bring life, health and safety to the people; along with many women in various fields of labor, study and work, grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and children with an indispensable role in building families - the cells of a prosperous, equal, progressive and happy society, maintaining political security, social order and safety and promoting the socio-economic development of the country.

The Prime Minister said that currently, the proportion of leaders and managers in Party and State agencies has been improved in both quantity and quality. In the 13th Central Executive Committee, there are 19 women (9.5%), the 15th National Assembly has a rate of 30.26% female delegates, the highest ever; the Provincial Party Executive Committee has 16% women, the Provincial People's Council has 29% women... Vietnam ranks 60th in the world, 4th in Asia and first in the Inter-Parliamentary Union of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations in terms of the proportion of women participating in elected bodies; 3rd in the ASEAN region and 47th out of 187 countries in the world participating in the ranking of gender equality in political participation. Vietnam's gender inequality index ranks 65th out of 162 countries and territories.

The presence of key female leaders and managers at the Central and local levels, along with outstanding female intellectuals and artists today, continues to affirm the deep concern of the Party and State for women in general and female cadre work in particular. At the same time, it is a recognition, respect and honor for the efforts, struggles and continuous progress of women in the women's movement and for the advancement of women, along with the great contributions of women to the cause of Innovation, integration and development of the country.

With the desire to gather and promote the talents, intelligence, compassion and fine traditions of Vietnamese women in the recovery and sustainable socio-economic development; at the same time, gradually overcome shortcomings related to women's work and gender equality, for the advancement of women, the Prime Minister requested relevant ministries and branches to well implement the following key contents and tasks:

Firstly, continue to raise awareness and implement the Party's policy in the Resolution of the 13th National Congress: "Building Vietnamese women of the new era. Improving the quality of female human resources, meeting the requirements of sustainable development and international integration", contributing to achieving sustainable development goals by 2030. Focus on effectively implementing the National Strategy on Gender Equality for the period 2021 - 2030, creating conditions and opportunities for women and men to equally participate and contribute in all areas of social life, promoting rapid and sustainable development of the country, as well as enjoying the fruits of development.

The Prime Minister requested relevant ministries and branches to inspect and review the implementation of policies to support people, including women and children in difficult circumstances due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic; at the same time, review all policies for women, advise the Government and the Prime Minister according to their authority on policies to ensure a better life for female workers in industrial zones, especially policies on housing, kindergartens, and schools so that women can work with peace of mind.

Second, pay more attention to the planning of female cadres for leadership and management positions. During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always considered the training and development of female cadres an important part of the Party's cadre work. Therefore, it is necessary to identify this as an important and regular responsibility and task of the entire political system.

The Prime Minister assigned the Minister of Home Affairs to urgently develop a Project on training and fostering young cadres and female cadres of local authorities and central ministries and branches for the period 2022 - 2026, with a vision to 2030, to submit to the Prime Minister for promulgation and implementation starting in 2022.

Third, continue to improve the quality of activities of women's unions at all levels in the current period. Unions at all levels need to be proactive, flexible, and creative in choosing the content of activities; closely following the political tasks of the Party, choosing truly practical activities, suitable to the conditions of the union organization and its members, supporting women in economic development, improving their qualifications, and increasingly participating in political and social activities; encouraging, creating a suitable environment, and promoting the role of female intellectuals and artists so that women can contribute more and more effectively to the cause of innovation, integration, and development of the country.

Pay more attention to training women in knowledge about raising children, organizing family life, preserving and promoting national cultural identity, protecting the good customs and traditions of Vietnamese women, promoting compassion, tolerance, solidarity, and mutual assistance, especially when facing difficulties and hardships; boldly condemning acts of violence and immorality in the family and society.

The Prime Minister emphasized: “Gender equality and women’s liberation are not only the trend of the times but also in line with Vietnamese cultural traditions. I believe that the tradition of kindness, diligence, intelligence and dedication always shines in every Vietnamese woman; the good qualities of women will forever light up the faith, love and happiness of each member of the family, society and community, enriching the cultural identity of Vietnamese women in the new era, contributing to building our beloved Vietnam to become increasingly powerful and prosperous”./.
