On April 30, the Hoa Vang District Police (Da Nang) announced that the District Police Investigation Agency had just initiated a case and temporarily detained Mai Thanh (born in 1990, residing in Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang) for fraud and property appropriation.
According to the investigation results, "relying on" the recent "hot land situation in the suburbs" in Da Nang, 9X Mai Thanh fabricated the news that he owned many huge plots of land in the suburbs of Hoa Vang district and then advertised them for sale on information channels...

The first victim to fall into Mai Thanh's trap was Mr. Lam Thi N. (residing in Thanh Khe district, Da Nang). Around July 2021, Mr. N contacted Thanh and was taken to see the land location and told that he was doing the procedures to get a certificate of land use rights. Trusting him, Mr. N agreed to buy the virtual 851m2 land plot that Thanh claimed for 285 million VND, depositing 100 million VND. After receiving the deposit, Thanh immediately "disappeared" with a promise to do the procedures to transfer the name to Mr. N.
Similarly, in December 2021, Thanh connected with Ms. Nguyen Thi Ph (residing in Hai Chau, Da Nang) and also advertised to sell plot No. 6, map sheet No. 15, area 851m2 in village 5 (Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Vang, Da Nang) for 150 million VND and plot No. 2, map sheet No. 18, area 2,538m2 in village 5 (Hoa Khuong commune, Hoa Vang) for 800 million VND.
Thanh promised Mrs. Phuong that if her husband only paid Thanh 209 million VND as a deposit, he would do the transfer procedures, and when the land title was issued and the two plots of land were given to Mrs. Ph, he would receive the remaining amount... However, Thanh fled immediately after that...
Immediately upon receiving the complaint from Ms. Ph and Mr. N, the Hoa Vang District Police began an investigation and determined that Thanh had committed fraud and appropriated property by fraudulently selling virtual land to receive a deposit and then fled the area. The total amount of money Thanh defrauded and appropriated from the two victims was 309 million VND… The case is currently being further investigated and clarified.
