Cha then showed Phia the location where the drugs were hidden at a crossroads in Na Ngoi commune. Phia went to check and found a lot of drugs inside the cloth bag, so he covered it with leaves and went home.

On the morning of February 5, 2022, Cha called Phia and told him to take the drugs to a motel in Chieu Luu commune, Ky Son district because the buyer had arrived. The Laotian also told Phia to take the $20,000 from selling the "goods" and then receive the agreed payment.

Receiving instructions, Phia carried the drugs and walked to the motel area. After waiting for Chá's men to meet the guests to check and confirm that there was enough money and that the money was real, Phia brought the drugs in.

While Phia was making a drug transaction, he was caught red-handed by the police with more than 4.1 kg of drugs. Taking advantage of the loophole, the drug buyer fled.

At the trial, through an interpreter, the defendant admitted to the crime. The defendant stated that due to financial difficulties, he agreed to work as a drug dealer in exchange for the promised salary.

Facing the death penalty, the defendant asked for a chance to live on the grounds that it was his first time committing a crime and that he was an ethnic minority... However, with an exceptionally large amount of drugs, the panel sentenced defendant Gia Xai Phia to death for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking".
