Maximizing the effectiveness of e-libraries in Nghe An

In 2022, despite facing considerable difficulties in the early months due to the Covid-19 pandemic,Provincial LibraryThey have organized many activities and achieved encouraging results.

Notably, 2,000 new reader cards were issued (achieving 100% of the target), and 570,000 books and periodicals were circulated (achieving 114% of the target). Mobile library services were provided at 14 schools in 14 districts, towns, and cities, with 25 book circulation trips across 21 locations. The provincial library is currently developing 12 new libraries and book collections in 9 localities.

In addition, we successfully coordinated the organization of the "Reading Culture Ambassador" competition in Nghe An province in 2022, and the "Book Promotion and Introduction" competition in Nghe An province in 2022.

However, grassroots library activities still face many difficulties. The physical infrastructure, premises, and equipment for grassroots libraries are generally poor; the collection of books and periodicals is limited and not attractive to readers. Library staff are often juggling multiple responsibilities, failing to meet the demands and tasks of the new era of developing information technology.

Furthermore, most local libraries and book collections lack regular funding for acquiring new books and periodicals. Funding for book acquisition relies primarily on public contributions, which are not consistent or continuous, resulting in low operational efficiency for these libraries…

In his directive speech at the Conference, the leader of the Department of Culture and Sports requested that in 2023, the Provincial Library and the libraries of districts, cities, and towns should strengthen the dissemination and introduction of their library resources; continue to innovate to attract readers; promote the effectiveness of the e-library; strengthen joint ventures and collaborations in library activities; and strive to achieve the following targets: 80% of documents digitized; 100% of library staff trained in updated skills for managing and operating modern libraries; and 100% of district libraries using the e-library software deployed by the Provincial Library…
