(Baonghean.vn) - The temple dedicated to King Mai Hac De is the only place in the entire country that worships and commemorates Mai Hac De - the second emperor (after Ly Nam De) in the thousand-year history of Northern domination who dared to call himself "emperor" - on par with the kings of the North.
On December 30th, Ms. Tran Thi Kim Phuong, Head of the Relics Management Board of Nghe An province, announced that Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had signed a certificate recognizing the historical site as a Special National Relic.Temple of King Mai Hac De(Nam Dan district, Nghe An province).

Previously, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam signed Decision No. 1649/QD-TTg dated December 29, 2022, on the ranking of 5 historical sites as Special National Monuments (13th batch).
Specifically, the 5 sites ranked as Special National Monuments in this round include: the Roc Tung-Go Da archaeological site (An Khe town, Gia Lai province); the Sa Huynh Culture archaeological site (Duc Pho town, Quang Ngai province); the Huong Canh communal house complex architectural and artistic site (Binh Xuyen district, Vinh Phuc province); the historical site of the Temple of King Mai Hac De (Nam Dan district, Nghe An province); and the historical site of the Ap Bac Victory (Cai Lay town, Tien Giang province).

Mai Hac De, whose real name was Mai Thuc Loan, was born and raised in Ngoc Trung village, Dong Liet commune, now Nam Thai commune. In 713, Mai Thuc Loan led the Hoan Chau uprising to overthrow the Tang dynasty's rule and establish the Van An state (713 - 722).
He was the first person in Vietnamese history to conceive and successfully implement the policy of forming alliances with neighboring countries in the war against foreign invasion, protecting national sovereignty, and creating a major turning point in the thousand-year history of Chinese rule.
As of the end of 2022, Nghe An province had 476 classified historical sites, including 6 special national-level historical sites: Kim Lien Historical Site, Phan Boi Chau Memorial Area, Hoanh Son communal house, Nguyen Xi temple, Kilometer Zero, and the temple of King Mai Hac De.
In addition, the province has 144 national-level historical sites and 326 provincial-level historical sites.
