Yen Hoa village of the border communeMy Ly, Ky Son district is located on the banks of Nam Mo river, quite far from the commune center. Here, people have been accustomed to a self-sufficient life for generations, life is still lacking in many ways, including the family of Mr. Xeo Van Man. All his hard life, he only wished to have a breeding cow to raise, sell calves to contribute to improving the family economy. But then poverty surrounded him so his dream remained just... a dream.

Until one day, unexpected joy came to Mr. Xeo Van Man's family. That was December 19, 2022, from early morning, Mr. Man chose his best outfit to go to the village center to receive gifts from Economic - Defense Group 4. "My long-time dream has come true. With cows, my family will take good care of them so that they can reproduce and quickly escape poverty!", Mr. Xeo Van Man shared.

Not only in My Ly commune, in the military area, people in many villages and border villages of Ky Son, Tuong Duong, Que Phong districts were also given 100 buffaloes and 185 breeding cows by Economic - Defense Group 4. "Each buffalo and breeding cow is a path leading people out of poverty. Each household only needs to take care of their livestock properly so that the buffaloes and cows can reproduce quickly, helping people's lives to be more prosperous and happier" - Chairman of My Ly Commune People's Committee, Mr. Lo Van Bay affirmed.

This new spring, Mr. Moong Van Bay in Huoi Bac village, Bac Ly commune also received joy when, for the first time in his life, he held in his hands the money from selling agricultural products that he had grown himself. That was a cassava field of more than 3 hectares, with My Ly Border Guard Station supporting his family with all the seeds and providing instructions on planting and care techniques. Now that it is harvest time, Mr. Bay firmly believes that hard work and diligence will yield results in prosperity, gradually escaping poverty.

In 2022, supporting the planting of high-yield cassava in My Ly commune was one of 60 economic development models that Nghe An border guards supported directly to the people. The border guards also helped people with 3,490 working days, taking care of and harvesting 72 hectares of crops; planting forests, reclaiming and restoring 13 hectares; donating 250 grapefruit seedlings and 2 breeding cows to poor households in the border areas. In addition, the border guards also built 5 charity houses, 1 "Zero-dong stall" model to provide free clothes, clothes, and necessities to the poor; 1 computer room (10 computers) with Internet connection to teach IT and serve entertainment and learning for students and people; repaired and built 41 new houses for poor households.

“In early 2022, My Ly Border Guard Station supported 3 households with high-yield cassava varieties on 9.8 hectares in Huoi Cang and Huoi Bac villages. By December, seeing that the households had harvested, people in neighboring villages proactively registered to grow high-yield cassava in 2023. Currently, the registered area has reached 17 hectares,” said Mr. Cut Van Long - Chairman of Bac Ly Commune People's Committee.

In Thong Thu commune, Que Phong district, many poor households here said that the economic support from the soldiers of Economic - Defense Group 4 has helped people welcome the New Year with more joy. Because of the support of the officers and soldiers, many households in Thong Thu commune have had the conditions to gradually rise out of poverty.

In 2022, with the savings of cadres and soldiers, agencies and units joined hands with the people to build 38 production development models, worth over 240 million VND, supporting over 3,500 poultry and pig breeds, 160 kg of fish breeds, nearly 10,000 fruit trees of all kinds, 200 kg of rice seeds; 5,000 peach trees; 500 kg of ginger seeds along with planting and livestock materials and more than 40 million VND in cash to build livestock barns for the people.

For example, the families of Mr. Quang Van Thanh and Mr. Quang Van Tu in Muong Piet village, the families of Mr. Ha Van Thi and Mr. Ngan Van Thanh in Na Hum village and some other households were supported by Production Team No. 7, Economic - Defense Group 4 to raise commercial fish for harvest and are being replicated in cages and rafts in the Hua Na Hydropower Reservoir. The model of "Raising breeding sows" has now produced 3 litters a year and has been replicated for the families of Mr. Luong Son Hieng in Muong Piet village, Lo Van Vinh, Lo Van Hoa and some other households in Muong Phu village...

Economic-Defense Group 4 is stationed in 4 mountainous border districts of Nghe An. In addition to performing the task of protecting national security and defense, it is also an economic “support” for the poor. Every year, the unit has deployed hundreds of models worth hundreds of millions of VND to help households escape poverty.
