Speaking to reporters, representatives of some gasoline retail businesses in Nghe An said that their business has been continuously losing money amid difficulties in supply, with sources limiting sales and cutting discounts. Gasoline is a conditional business, with price controls and is subject to the management and intervention of the State. Maintaining a fixed discount is currently inappropriate and does not provide a competitive incentive; stores selling 100 m3 of gasoline/month and those selling 1,000 m3 of gasoline/month are paid the same.

Therefore, if the State wants to stabilize the gasoline market, it should set a minimum discount rate for retail businesses. In fact, to build a gas station, a business must spend about 6 billion VND. When deducting initial investments such as bank loans, gasoline transportation costs, labor, electricity, water, taxes, etc., each liter of gasoline is about 500 VND. If the business is favorable, the gas station owner will have a profit of 20 - 30 million VND/month.

“That’s for normal stores. Over the past year, many businesses have had their discounts cut continuously, suffered losses to the point of having to close because they no longer had the money to maintain…”, he said.
