Some of the top gut health experts have shared the foods they try to cut out, like protein bars and steak.
We're often told to avoid processed foods and sweets. However, some foods that appear in many diets can cause unpleasant side effects like gas and bloating.

Gastroenterologist Harmony Allison at Tufts Medical Center (USA) often stays away fromprotein baroften used by people who love to exercise and go to the gym every day. Dr. Allison toldHuffington Post: "I never eat protein bars. They are often highly processed and contain additives of unknown origin."
Instead, Dr. Allison often opts for natural protein sources like nuts and seeds.
The second expert, Dr. Reezwana Chowdhury, always avoidssteak. A gastroenterologist at Johns Hopkins (USA) explains: “Red meat and processed meat increase the risk of colorectal cancer and polyps.”
Although red meat is an important source of essential vitamins and amino acids, Dr Chowdury says it should not be eaten more than 100g a day and ideally no more than once a week.
Dr. Simon Matthews, of Johns Hopkins and a member of the advisory board of Vivante Health, stays away.carbonated drinksat all costs. “This water is easy to drink but has been linked to chronic problems, such as diabetes and heart disease,” says Dr. Matthews.
These drinks can cause bloating as well as uncomfortable belching and acid reflux.

Meanwhile, Dr. Mahmoud Ghannoum, recommends against eatingFrench fries“Studies have shown that frying oil can negatively modulate the gut microbiome, leading to worsening atherosclerosis (the buildup of fats and other substances in the artery walls),” he explains. Over time, this buildup can lead to consequences such as heart attacks and strokes.
Foods that Dr. Shilpa Grover warns against eating arewhite bread. Director of the Digestive Cancer Program at the Department of Gastroenterology, Brigham and Women's Hospital (USA) explains that refined grains can wreak havoc on our intestines.
Therefore, you should stay away from the above foods in the supermarket or minimize consumption if you want to protect your intestinal health.
