Officially opened the appeal trial of the case that occurred at the Continuing Education Center of Hung Nguyen district

This morning (June 12), Nghe An Provincial People's CourtOpen the appeal trial of the case "Abusing position and power while performing official duties"occurred at the Hung Nguyen District Continuing Education Center against defendants Le Thi Dung and Nguyen Thi Huong.
Previously, on April 7, 10, 11, 17 and 24, 2023, Hung Nguyen District People's Court opened the first-instance trial of the criminal case against the defendants Le Thi Dung and Nguyen Thi Huong, prosecuted by the Hung Nguyen District People's Procuracy for the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties".
Afterwards, the People's Court of Hung Nguyen district sentenced the defendant Le Thi Dung to 5 years in prison (the lowest level of the penalty frame); Nguyen Thi Huong (former accountant of the Continuing Education Center of Hung Nguyen district) to 2 years of suspended imprisonment for the crime of "Abusing position and power while performing official duties".
After the first instance trial, defendant Le Thi Dung and her family filed an appeal against the entire first instance judgment. The Provincial People's Procuracy issued an appeal requesting the Provincial People's Court to review the appeal in the direction of annulling the first instance judgment for reinvestigation and retrial.

Entering the trial, at exactly 8 o'clock, the defendants Le Thi Dung and Nguyen Thi Huong were both brought to the courtroom. On the side of defendant Le Thi Dung, there were 6 lawyers participating in the defense at the trial.
On the side of the Appellate Trial Council, there are 3 Judges, of which Judge Hoang Ngoc Anh - Chief Justice of the Criminal Court is assigned to preside over the trial.
In addition, the representative of the victim, the Continuing Education Center of Hung Nguyen district, along with people with related rights and obligations were also present.
At the trial, the person with related rights and obligations, Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thuy, submitted a request for a trial in absentia. Lawyer Nguyen Danh Hue said that Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thuy's absence would affect the rights of defendant Le Thi Dung, so he requested the Chief Judge to postpone the trial. Meanwhile, Lawyer Tran Thi Hong Phuc said that because Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thuy had given a specific statement, it was not necessary to postpone the trial.
The Trial Panel then entered the deliberation room to deliberate. After deliberation, the Trial Panel decided to continue the trial.
