The Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Provincial Police has just arrested Tran Thi Dung after 28 years of evading a warrant for the crime of "Embezzlement of socialist property"This incident occurred at the Agricultural Bank of Thach Ha District."
Previously, Tran Thi Dung (born in 1965), from Huong Thuy commune, Huong Khe district, Ha Tinh province, was a credit officer at the Agricultural Bank of Thach Ha district. During her employment from January 1995 to September 1995, Tran Thi Dung created 20 loan agreements under her own name and the names of others to embezzle over 190 million VND before fleeing.
On October 4, 1995, the Investigation Police Department of Thach Ha District, Ha Tinh Province, issued a decision to prosecute Tran Thi Dung for the crime of "Embezzlement of socialist property" as stipulated in Article 133 of the 1985 Penal Code. On October 5, 1995, wanted notice No. 04 was issued against Tran Thi Dung.
The case was subsequently transferred to the Economic Police Department of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police for investigation. The investigating agency discovered that a suspect named Tran Thi Bich Thao (born in 1970, residing in Block 14, Quang Trung Ward, Vinh City, Nghe An Province) was highly suspicious. Immediately afterwards, the Ha Tinh Provincial Police quickly focused on verifying and apprehending the wanted suspect Tran Thi Dung.
On June 14th, the task force, in coordination with the Quang Trung Ward Police, Vinh City, Nghe An Province, verified information and confirmed that the person named "Tran Thi Bich Thao" was indeed the wanted fugitive "Tran Thi Dung". The task force then arrested Dung after 28 years on the run.
During questioning, Tran Thi Dung admitted that she was the wanted fugitive of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police. To avoid detection by the police while on the run, Tran Thi Dung changed her name to Tran Thi Bich Thao.
The Investigation Police Department of Ha Tinh province has reopened the case and detained Tran Thi Dung on charges of "embezzlement of socialist property" to continue the investigation and processing in accordance with the law.
