'Monster woman' changed her name and surname to escape arrest for 28 years
In 1995, Dung embezzled 190 million VND, then changed his name and family name to hide from police for 28 years. The subject was recently arrested by the police.
The Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Police has just arrested Tran Thi Dung after 28 years of being on the run for the crime of "Embezzlement of socialist property" occurred at the Agricultural Bank of Thach Ha district.
Previously, Tran Thi Dung (born in 1965), from Huong Thuy commune, Huong Khe district (Ha Tinh), was a credit officer at the Agricultural Bank of Thach Ha district. During her work from January 1995 to September 1995, Tran Thi Dung made 20 contracts in her name and the names of others to embezzle over 190 million VND and then fled.
On October 4, 1995, the Investigation Police Agency of Thach Ha District, Ha Tinh Province issued a Decision to prosecute Tran Thi Dung for the crime of "Embezzlement of socialist property" under Article 133 of the 1985 Penal Code. On October 5, 1995, it issued Wanted Decision No. 04 for Tran Thi Dung.
The case was then transferred to the Economic Police Department of Ha Tinh Police for investigation under their authority. The investigation agency discovered that the subject named Tran Thi Bich Thao (born in 1970, residing in Block 14, Quang Trung Ward, Vinh City, Nghe An Province) had many suspicions. Immediately after that, Ha Tinh Provincial Police quickly focused on verifying and arresting the wanted subject Tran Thi Dung.
On June 14, the Working Group coordinated with the Quang Trung Ward Police, Vinh City, Nghe An Province to verify, gather information and identify the person named "Tran Thi Bich Thao" as the wanted subject "Tran Thi Dung". The Working Group arrested Dung after 28 years of hiding.
During the investigation, Tran Thi Dung admitted that she was the wanted subject of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police Department. In order to avoid detection by the police, while on the run, Tran Thi Dung changed her name to Tran Thi Bich Thao.
The Investigation Police Agency of Ha Tinh Province Police has reopened the case, the accused, and detained Tran Thi Dung for the crime of "Embezzlement of socialist property" to continue investigating and handling according to the provisions of law.
