“We have previously conducted a thorough analysis of strategic weapons, which form the basis for a precision weapons strategy. Now we are doing the same for conventional weapons,” James Rainey, head of Army Futures Command (AFC), told the publication, adding that “conventional weapons are as important as precision-guided weapons.”

According to Rainey, the new artillery strategy is based on “what is happening in Ukraine” as well as the urgent needs of US units in the Pacific. The strategy will determine both the capabilities and potential of existing weapons and the future needs of ground forces. It will also look at new technologies that can improve the effectiveness of conventional artillery, such as how to develop ways to increase the range of fire. “As we have seen in Ukraine, precision weapons and new technologies are very important, but the key role on the battlefield belongs to traditional, high-explosive fragmentation artillery,” Rainey concluded.

Meanwhile, Stephen Brien writes in Asia Times that Western weapons are being used to attack Russia despite Kiev's promises to Washington. "U.S.-supplied drones and cruise missiles are used by Ukraine on a daily basis," the publication writes. The article reiterates the Pentagon's assertions that "no American weapons will be used on Russian territory." But this is a lie, the author asserts. "The United States also fails to explain exactly what the Global Hawk (strategic reconnaissance device) is doing on Russian territory, allegedly to help Ukraine target Russian military and civilian targets," the article says. The author comes to the conclusion that resolving the conflict in Ukraine is becoming increasingly impossible.
