“In the past, we have done a thorough analysis of strategic weapons, which form the basis of our precision weapons strategy. Now we are doing the same for conventional weapons,” James Rainey, head of Army Futures Command (AFC), told the publication, adding that “conventional weapons are as important as precision-guided weapons.”

According to Rainey, the new artillery strategy is based on “what is happening in Ukraine” as well as the urgent needs of US units in the Pacific. The strategy will determine both the capabilities and potential of existing weapons and the future needs of ground forces. It will also consider new technologies that can improve the effectiveness of conventional artillery, such as how to develop ways to increase the range. “As we have seen in Ukraine, precision weapons and new technologies are very important, but the key role on the battlefield belongs to traditional, high-explosive fragmentation artillery,” Rainey concluded.

Meanwhile, Stephen Brien writes in Asia Times that Western weapons are being used to attack Russia despite Kiev's promises to Washington. "Ukraine is using drones and cruise missiles supplied by the United States every day," the publication writes. The article repeats the Pentagon's assertions that "no American weapons will be used on Russian territory." But this is a lie, the author claims. "The United States also fails to explain exactly what the Global Hawk (strategic reconnaissance device) is doing on Russian territory, supposedly to help Ukraine target Russian military and civilian targets," the article says. The author concludes that resolving the conflict in Ukraine is becoming increasingly impossible.
