The US military is developing a new artillery strategy based on the conflict in Ukraine.

"Previously, we conducted thorough analyses of strategic weapons, which form the basis of our precision weapons strategy. Now we are doing the same with conventional weapons," James Rainey, head of the Army Futures Command (AFC), told the publication, adding that "conventional weapons are just as important as precision-guided weapons."
According to Rainey, the new artillery strategy is based on "what is happening in Ukraine" as well as the urgent needs of U.S. units in the Pacific. The strategy will determine both the capabilities and potential of existing weapons as well as the future needs of ground forces. It will also consider new technologies that could improve the effectiveness of conventional artillery, such as development to increase range. Rainey concludes: “As we’ve seen from the situation in Ukraine, precision weapons and new technologies are of great importance, but the key role on the battlefield belongs to traditional, high-explosive fragmentation artillery.”

"The US also fails to explain precisely what the Global Hawk (strategic surveillance device) is doing on Russian territory, supposedly to help Ukraine target Russian military and civilian targets," the article states. The author concludes that resolving the conflict in Ukraine is becoming increasingly impossible.
