(Baonghean.vn) - In a short period of time, using fraudulent schemes such as promising jobs at the Social Policy Bank of Nghe An and selling cars at cheap prices, Cao Thi Thu Ha defrauded three victims, appropriating nearly 4.1 billion VND.

On August 17th, the People's Court of Nghe An province opened a trial to hear the case against Cao Thi Thu Ha (born in 1990), residing in Dien Hoa commune, Dien Chau district, for the crime of "Fraudulent appropriation of property".

Due to debt and a lack of stable employment, Cao Thi Thu Ha conceived the idea of defrauding others. Ha provided false information, such as claiming she could buy cars at a low price and secure jobs at banks, to swindle money from three victims, totaling nearly 4.1 billion VND.

Among the victims, Mr. Phan Thế T. (born in 1989, residing in Nghĩa Lộc commune, Nghĩa Đàn district) was defrauded by Hà, who stole over 1.5 billion VND from him. Mr. T. knew Hà through a mutual friend.

Around April 2022, knowing that Mr. T.'s girlfriend had applied for a position at the Social Policy Bank of Nghe An province but hadn't received the results yet, Ha boasted that she could help Mr. T.'s girlfriend get accepted into the bank. Ha claimed to have close ties with the bank's director and promised to secure the job. Trusting her, Mr. T. transferred a total of 850 million VND to Ha.

During this time, knowing that Mr. T. needed to buy a car, Ha informed him that she could find cheaper cars at car dealerships. Trusting her, Mr. T. transferred a total of 700 million VND to Ha in a short period. Ha then embezzled this money and used it all for personal purposes.

After defrauding numerous victims, Ha turned himself in to the police in November 2022.

At the trial, the defendant confessed that she committed the fraudulent acts against multiple victims because she was in debt and needed money to repay it. However, the female defendant did not specify the details of those debts.

The victims who attended the trial stated that they had not received any compensation from the defendant to date, and therefore demanded that Ha return all the money she had embezzled.

The court determined that the defendant's criminal act was particularly serious, infringing upon the property rights of others, and therefore sentenced Cao Thi Thu Ha to 20 years in prison; the defendant was also ordered to return all the money she had stolen from the victims.
