Meritorious Artist Do Ky was saddened and surprised when he missed out on the title of People's Artist.
Meritorious Artist Do Ky shared that he was saddened and found it difficult to understand why his application for the title of People's Artist was put on hold due to a complaint.
On November 21st, Meritorious Artist Do Ky received a notification from the Department of Performing Arts (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) stating that his application for the title of People's Artist had been suspended. The document indicated that, due to a complaint and the opinion of the Ministry of Public Security, his application did not meet the requirements for consideration for the title of People's Artist.
Speaking to VTC News, Meritorious Artist Do Ky said: "I was shocked and saddened to receive this notification. I find it strange because in over 40 years of working in the profession, I have never done anything wrong, violated the law, or violated my professional ethics... so I don't understand what their purpose was in sending this letter at the very time I was submitting my application for the title of People's Artist?"
To date, the artist still doesn't know what the complaint is about. "I want to know the content and get an explanation for the complaint. If the content of the complaint is untrue, is the person who filed it guilty of defamation? I want to clarify this because it affects my honor and reputation, and I'm not satisfied with the document the Department of Performing Arts sent me."
"If I had violated anything to the extent that it warranted disciplinary action, the Department of Performing Arts, as the grassroots council, would not have considered and submitted my case to the ministerial-level council. I feel I have absolutely no right to protect my honor – the most basic human right," said Meritorious Artist Do Ky indignantly.
Do Ky asserted that he submitted his application for the title of People's Artist not for the sake of the title itself: "I submitted the application not for the title; I'm not striving to become this or that person. Living in this world, I'm fortunate to have a job I love and to do my best; that's enough for me. But this affects my honor and reputation."
VTC News reporters contacted Ms. Tran Ly Ly, Acting Director of the Department of Performing Arts, but have not yet received a response.
Meritorious Artist Do Ky was born in 1961 in Hanoi. He graduated from the first acting class and received direct training at the Vietnam National Drama Theatre in 1982. Beyond the stage, he is also a familiar face on television, beloved for his many roles in popular films such as "The Family Tree of the Land," "A Heart with Sunshine," "The Cold Ash-Colored Villa," "Question Number 5," "Fragrance of the Land," "The Judge," and "The Storm"... His role in the film "Family Traditions" is particularly popular with audiences.
Meritorious Artist Do Ky served as Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Drama Theatre from 2001 to 2008. From 2008, Meritorious Artist Do Ky transferred to work at the Department of Performing Arts. In 2022, he retired.
