Police busted a football betting ring worth over 50 billion VND.
On the morning of December 19th, the police dismantled a gambling ring operating in the form of football betting, and detained four individuals involved.
According to the police, this gambling ring was organized by Le Chi Tuan (born in 1985, residing in Hoa Bac commune, Hoa Vang district) and Mai Phuoc Ngoc (born in 1993, residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city).
After a period of gathering information and documents related to the activities of this gambling ring, in early December 2023, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police established a special case to focus on combating it. On the morning of December 18th, the police force carried out the urgent arrest of Le Chi Tuan and Mai Phuoc Ngoc.
Through questioning, the suspects confessed that from around January 2023 to the present, Tuan and Ngoc had contacted an individual named Nhan (whose identity is unknown) to access betting accounts on the Bong88 website to organize online football betting.
The suspects divided the account into multiple sub-accounts and distributed them to gamblers for betting, while also increasing the exchange rate of 1 USD for betting from 12,000 VND to 17,000 VND and then to 20,000 VND. During a search of the suspects' residences, police seized over 200 pages of documents detailing betting history from November 14, 2023 to December 17, 2023, along with 107,470 USD and other related evidence. Initially, the police determined that the total amount of money involved in organizing and participating in this gambling ring was approximately over 50 billion VND.
Along with Tuan and Ngoc, the police also arrested Huynh Van Truong (born in 1969) and Le Van Nam (born in 1980, both residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district) for gambling. Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang Police is continuing to expand the investigation and track down other related individuals.
