Breaking up a football betting ring worth over 50 billion VND
On the morning of December 19, the police agency has just dismantled a gambling ring in the form of football betting, temporarily detaining 4 related subjects.
According to the police, this gambling ring was organized by Le Chi Tuan (born in 1985, residing in Hoa Bac commune, Hoa Vang district) and Mai Phuoc Ngoc (born in 1993, residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang city).
After a period of collecting information and documents related to the activities of this gambling ring, in early December 2023, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang Police established a special project to focus on the fight. By the morning of December 18, the police force had urgently arrested Le Chi Tuan and Mai Phuoc Ngoc.
Through the investigation, the subjects confessed that from around January 2023 until now, Tuan and Ngoc have contacted a subject named Nhan (unknown background) to use the Bong88 website to access betting accounts to carry out gambling activities in the form of football betting over the Internet.
The subjects divided the account into many sub-accounts and gave them to gamblers for betting, while raising the conversion value of 1 USD for betting from 12,000 VND to 17,000 VND to 20,000 VND. Searching the subjects' residence, the police seized more than 200 pages of documents showing the betting history from November 14, 2023 to December 17, 2023 and the amount of 107,470 USD and some other related evidence. Initially, the police determined that the amount of money for organizing and gambling of this line was about more than 50 billion VND.
Along with Tuan and Ngoc, the police also arrested Huynh Van Truong (born in 1969) and Le Van Nam (born in 1980, both residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district) for gambling. Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang Police is continuing to expand the case and investigate other related subjects.
