According to RT news agency on January 11, during a visit to Chukotka on January 10, answering a question from a father with five children at a short press conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin supported the proposal to exempt housing taxes for large families in the Far East.

"Of course, the federal budget can provide an appropriate level of support, which will benefit large families in the Far East," President Putin said, adding that he would ask the government and relevant committees of the State Council to work on this issue.

The Russian leader was also pleased, because in this country "having many children is becoming fashionable".

“According to public opinion polls, by 2022, 60% of Russian men and 70% of women want to have two or more children. This view of building a strong family is constantly being strengthened and developed. And of course, in this regard, state support for such families is very important. We are trying to do this well,” President Putin shared.

Also related to this topic, President Putin opposed the proposal to expand the use of maternity allowance funds, especially using it to buy cars.

“You know, what have I always feared? Families, especially large families, have a lot of needs. It seems like an ocean of needs: health, education... But I have always feared that as soon as we start allowing these maternity funds to be used for various purposes, we will eventually not be able to ensure the rights of children,” Putin stressed, adding that the maternity fund was originally conceived as a tool to support large families in important matters.

The Russian leader will ask the government and the Ministry of Industry and Trade to separately consider the issue of car purchase subsidies for large families in the Far East.

On January 10, President Vladimir Putin made his first trip of 2024, visiting Russia's far eastern Chukotka region. In Chukotka, Putin visited a multi-storey greenhouse complex where vegetables are grown year-round in frosty conditions.

Chukotka is the easternmost region of Russia, with a maritime border with the Bering Strait bordering the US state of Alaska./.
