Homes filled with camaraderie.

Sergeant Luong Quoc Khanh, a police officer in Ky Son district, was born into an extremely difficult family situation. His father passed away early, and his mother is frequently ill. Currently, he lives with his mother and two younger siblings in a house built 20 years ago that is not safe. Despite many difficulties and hardships, with a sense of responsibility and enthusiasm for his work, Khanh always strives to excel in all his duties, earning the trust and respect of his superiors and fellow officers and soldiers in the unit.

Out of sympathy and solidarity with their comrade's difficulties, the Youth Union of the Nghe An Provincial Police Department, in coordination with the Vietnam Investment and Development Bank (BIDV) Nghe An branch, provided Sergeant Luong Quoc Khanh's family with 50 million VND to build a house of compassion. In addition to the support from the Youth Union and BIDV, police officers from Ky Son district also contributed. After approximately 5 months of intensive construction, the new house was completed at the end of 2023, bringing joy to the entire family.

“Without the support of my colleagues and benefactors, I don't know when my family would have been able to have such a sturdy house. I am deeply moved and grateful for everyone's kindness. Now, every time I go on a business trip, I worry less about my mother and two younger siblings,” Sergeant Luong Quoc Khanh shared.

Welcoming us into his spacious new home, Captain Vo Trong Hung, a police officer from Trung Phuc Cuong commune, Nam Dan district, couldn't hide his joy and emotion, because from now on, his family will no longer have to live in their old, dilapidated house. It is known that Captain Hung was born and raised in Long Xa commune, Hung Nguyen district, in a family with particularly difficult circumstances. His older brother was affected by Agent Orange, and his mother passed away when he was 6 years old. Currently, he and his wife and two young children live in an old, unsafe house, and his wife's income is unstable. Understanding the circumstances of Captain Hung's family, the Nam Dan District Police and the Nghe An Provincial Police proposed and received support from the Ministry of Public Security and the "Comradeship Fund" to build a house of compassion with a budget of 100 million VND.

The construction and repair of charitable housing within the police force is an activity that the Nghe An Provincial Police have always paid special attention to and directed the implementation of. Accordingly, every year, the Provincial Police include this content in its resolutions and work programs, considering it one of the criteria for evaluating the emulation movement of police units and localities.

In addition, the Provincial Police Department has assigned organizations and associations to implement volunteer movements, acts of gratitude, charity, humanitarian work, and the construction of houses of compassion among members within and outside the Nghe An Police force, so that the movement can spread widely. Through this, officers and soldiers can understand the profound humanitarian significance and importance of compassionate work in building the People's Police force, contributing to motivating and supporting officers and soldiers in difficult circumstances to stabilize their lives and successfully complete their assigned tasks.

With that spirit, from 2016 to the present, the Provincial Police Department has proposed and received support from the Management Board of the "Comradeship and Solidarity" Fund of the People's Police to build 11 new houses of gratitude with a total amount of nearly 1.5 billion VND. In addition, units within and outside the People's Police force have also supported the construction of many new houses of gratitude worth hundreds of millions of VND...

"When the people need help, the police are there for them."

The advice of General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, has been and continues to be applied effectively and meaningfully by the Nghe An Provincial Police in social welfare and charitable activities, in many diverse and rich forms. In particular, the decisive and "lightning-fast" completion of the construction of 3,553 houses for the poor and those with housing difficulties in 27 communes across 6 border districts of the province is considered a special highlight.

As a poor household in Tan Lam village, Ngoc Lam commune, Thanh Chuong district, Mr. Vi Van Binh (born in 1945) and his wife faced immense hardship, struggling to make ends meet. The dream of a new, sturdy house seemed impoverished. But that dream became a reality when their family was selected to receive funding for a new home from the Ministry of Public Security.

After just over two months of construction, the spacious house was completed, bringing immense joy to the couple. Carefully cleaning family mementos before moving them into the new home, Mr. Binh emotionally shared: “I can only express my gratitude to the Party, the government, and the police force for helping my wife and I turn our dream into reality. From now on, my family will no longer have to worry whenever storms and floods strike…”

With her husband gone and her children working far away, for many years, Mrs. Lo Thi Hoi (born in 1940), residing in Son Ha village, Tam Quang commune, Tuong Duong district, lived alone in a dilapidated, leaky house, causing concern and sympathy among her neighbors. On the day she received her new house, Mrs. Hoi was overwhelmed with emotion, unable to speak, because at her age, she never imagined she would one day live in such a sturdy house. She said that with a new house, her children and grandchildren who live far away will come home for Tet (Lunar New Year), and she feels much warmer inside…

Mr. Vi Van Binh and Ms. Lo Thi Hoi are just two of thousands of disadvantaged individuals in Nghe An province who have received charitable houses thanks to the Ministry of Public Security's initiative. To effectively implement this humane initiative, the police force not only contributed funds but also directly led the construction of prefabricated houses for the people. Notably, police units and local authorities mobilized over 3,000 officers and local residents to assist in transporting materials across difficult and treacherous terrain, completing the construction ahead of schedule.

3,553 houses were built, once again affirming the deep concern of the Central Party Committee of Public Security, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Nghe An Provincial Police in joining hands with the political system to care for and improve the quality of life of people in the remote border areas. This contributes to strengthening the close and inseparable relationship between the police force and the people in the cause of ensuring national security and maintaining social order and safety.

Social welfare work within the Nghe An Public Security force is also clearly demonstrated in its pioneering spirit, proactive approach, and leadership in volunteer movements, acts of kindness, and disaster and disease prevention and control. It is worth remembering that during the outbreak and extremely complex developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Nghe An Public Security force mobilized its maximum resources, braving the sun and rain to fight the pandemic alongside the people; at the same time, they mobilized all resources to support the people in overcoming difficulties in their lives.

During times of storms and floods, the image of police officers in their uniforms "returning" to the fields to help people harvest rice to escape the floods, or carrying elderly people and children to safety, becomes incredibly beautiful. For them, the spirit of "Serving the People" is a command from the heart, something that will never change or be altered...

In particular, responding to the call of the Provincial Party Secretary, with the spirit of "Joining hands for the poor - Leaving no one behind," every year, the Nghe An Provincial Police have mobilized officers and soldiers to contribute billions of dong to support the poor in celebrating Tet (Lunar New Year); specifically during the Tet holiday of the Year of the Dragon 2024, the Provincial Police donated nearly 6.5 billion dong. In addition, police units, localities, and organizations such as the Youth Union, Women's Union, and Trade Union have also coordinated with organizations and individuals to directly carry out many activities to support people in celebrating Tet.

Speaking of the social welfare and charitable work of the Nghe An Provincial Police, one cannot fail to mention the power of sharing and love from the "Living Blood Bank" Club, chaired by the Executive Committee of the Provincial Police Youth Union, with over 450 members. After nearly three years since its establishment (May 2021), the club has mobilized over 100 emergency blood and platelet donations, providing timely emergency care to over 100 patients in critical condition.

In addition, the club has advised on and organized 11 blood donation programs throughout the Provincial Police Department, thereby mobilizing donations of more than 2,150 units of blood for the Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center. After each donation, not only is one patient saved, but it also contributes to enhancing the image of the Nghe An police officers in the hearts of the people.

Promoting social welfare and charitable activities is an important task that contributes to improving the political and ideological education of police officers and soldiers.
