(Baonghean.vn) - As the largest lemon growing area in the district, for many years, lemon products in Bai Oi village, Chi Khe commune have always faced the situation of "good harvest, low price". Currently, along with the degeneration of crops, people have cut down 50% of the lemon area, converted to other crops and invested in livestock.
About 5 years ago, lemon trees brought high income to many households in Bai Oi village, Chi Khe commune. Many households planted 3-5 hectares, yielding 6-8 tons/ha, with an average income of 30-50 million VND/crop. During its "golden age", Bai Oi village had more than 100 hectares of lemons. In addition, the situation of "good harvest, low price" occurred continuously, causing people to gradually cut them down. "The main crop of lemons in 2023 has a low price, only about 7-8 thousand VND/kg. The price of off-season lemons is quite high, 30-35 thousand VND/kg, but the area has been abandoned so there are few lemons to sell" - Mr. Le Van Tam, Head of Bai Oi village said. In the photo: The 4-hectare lemon garden of Ms. Le Thi Cuc in Bai Oi village has degenerated, the trees are infected with pests and diseases, and many have died, so she has cut down 2 hectares.
