These animals were seized by the Traffic Police and Public Order Team of Vinh City Police during a patrol and inspection of vehicles in the area on the evening of April 15, 2024.
Earlier, at approximately 7:30 PM on April 15, 2024, during a patrol and vehicle inspection on Dung Quyet Street, Vinh City, the Traffic Police and Order Patrol Team of Vinh City Police discovered a car with license plate 20L - 1880 driven by Chao A Lai (born in 1992), residing in Khanh Xuan commune, Bao Lac district, Cao Bang province, traveling from South to North. The vehicle exhibited suspicious behavior, so the officers signaled it to stop for inspection.
Upon inspection, authorities discovered 21 boxes containing 420 live rare wild animals, including parrots, hedgehogs, sloths, kangaroos, civets, turtles, monkeys, pythons, and snakes.
Working with authorities, Chảo A Lai was unable to produce documents proving the origin of the wild animals and confessed that he was transporting all of them for an unknown person from Hà Tĩnh province to Hà Nam province in exchange for 15 million VND in payment.
Currently, the case is under further investigation and will be handled in accordance with the law.
