Prosecution of house fire case that killed 14 people
The Hanoi City Police Department has initiated criminal proceedings into the fire that killed 14 people in Cau Giay District, Hanoi in the early morning of May 24.
On May 25, Hanoi City Police issued a decision to prosecute a criminal case related to the fire on Trung Kinh Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi to clarify violations of fire prevention and fighting regulations.
The case was initiated for verification and investigation according to the opinions and directions of the Prime Minister, leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee, and Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee.
Accordingly, the authorities will verify two contents, consider the responsibility of the landlord in Trung Kinh ward, Hanoi and the responsibility of the State management group to strictly handle according to the provisions of law.
Previously, at around 0:46 on May 24, 2024, Call Center 114 - Hanoi City Police Command Information Center received a report of a house fire; at address No. 1, Alley 31, Lane 98, Lane 43, Trung Kinh Street, Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District.
Upon receiving the information, the City Police mobilized 50 officers and soldiers of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force of the City Police and Cau Giay District Police, the 113 Police Force of Cau Giay District Police, and Trung Hoa Ward Police to urgently go to the scene to coordinate with other forces of the government and local people to organize fire fighting.
At 0:52 a.m. the same day, units arrived at the scene, deployed fire fighting, fire prevention, and reconnaissance teams to search and rescue victims.
At this time, the fire had grown rapidly, burning many motorbikes, electric bicycles, and bicycles in the yard area. Smoke and toxic gas covered the entire fire area. The forces broke the main gate lock, broke the window to access the inside of the house and rescued 7 trapped people, including 6 injured people who were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.
By 01:26, the fire was completely extinguished. Through preliminary search, the forces discovered 14 dead people.
Immediately after the fire broke out, leaders of the Government, National Assembly, Ministry of Public Security, Hanoi Party Committee, Hanoi People's Committee... and functional units were present at the scene to direct fire prevention and fighting, rescue work, encourage and visit the injured, relatives of the victims, overcome the consequences; direct the Investigation Police Agency to urgently investigate, verify, clarify the cause of the fire to resolve and strictly handle according to the provisions of law.
