The Hanoi City Police Investigation Agency has initiated a criminal case regarding the fire that killed 14 people in Cau Giay district, Hanoi, in the early morning of May 24th.

On May 25th, the Hanoi City Police issued a decision to initiate a criminal case related to the fire on Trung Kinh Street, Cau Giay District, Hanoi, to clarify violations of fire safety regulations.

Authorities are examining the scene and investigating the cause of the fire.

The initiation of the case for verification and investigation is based on the opinions and directives of the Prime Minister, the leaders of the Ministry of Public Security, the Secretary of the Hanoi City Party Committee, and the Chairman of the Hanoi City People's Committee.

Accordingly, the authorities will verify two issues, examine the responsibility of the landlord renting out the rooms in Trung Kinh ward, Hanoi, and the responsibility of the state management group, in order to take strict action in accordance with the law.

Earlier, at approximately 00:46 on May 24, 2024, the 114 hotline of the Hanoi City Police Command Information Center received a report of a house fire at address No. 1, alley 31, sub-alley 98, lane 43, Trung Kinh Street, Trung Hoa Ward, Cau Giay District.

Upon receiving the information, the City Police immediately dispatched 50 officers from the Fire Prevention and Rescue Police Force of the City Police and the Cau Giay District Police, the 113 Police Force of Cau Giay District, and the Trung Hoa Ward Police to the scene to coordinate with other government forces and local residents to extinguish the fire.

By 00:52 on the same day, the units had reached the scene, deployed firefighting efforts, prevented the fire from spreading, and deployed reconnaissance teams to search for and rescue victims.

At this point, the fire had intensified, burning many motorbikes, electric bikes, and bicycles in the yard, and smoke and toxic fumes enveloped the entire burning area. Rescue forces managed to break the main gate and windows to access the house and rescue seven people trapped inside, six of whom were injured and taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

By 1:26 AM, the fire was completely extinguished. Preliminary investigations by rescue forces revealed 14 fatalities.

Immediately after the fire broke out, leaders from the Government, the National Assembly, the Ministry of Public Security, the Hanoi City Party Committee, the Hanoi People's Committee, and other relevant agencies were present at the scene to direct fire prevention and control efforts, rescue operations, and to offer support and condolences to the injured, the families of the victims, and to address the consequences. They also directed the Criminal Investigation Agency to promptly investigate, verify, and clarify the cause of the fire in order to resolve and strictly handle the matter according to the law.
