Nghe An farmers increase the application of digital transformation in production, connecting with customers, and consuming products.

Actively put products online

Born and raised in a family with a tradition of carpentry, Tran Ngoc Huy in Tho Son hamlet, Tho Hop commune, Quy Hop district has a passion for wood carving. After graduating from university, Huy continued to equip himself with knowledge about wood handicrafts. After a period of research and learning, Huy opened a wood painting workshop and improved his skills by accepting orders to carve and engrave images on wood.

Having confidence in his skills, Huy boldly invested in more advanced machinery to produce decorative details on wooden materials, reducing labor, increasing productivity and product quality, and speeding up the processing process to produce goods in large quantities. The products are sold in the province and other provinces and cities.

Mr. Huy said: Taking advantage of raw materials from the forest, 5 years ago I invested in a model of processing wood handicrafts. Digital transformation is effectively applied in creating designs suitable for each type of product and also selling online. Expanding the consumer market on digital platforms helps businesses reach new customer groups, in line with current consumer trends...

Coming to Dien Lien commune, Dien Chau district, many people cannot help but admire the farm models here.

Ms. Phan Thi Hue's family in Dien Lien commune, Dien Chau planned to build a 4-hectare farm, in which they invested in building a fish pond, intercropping fruit trees such as grapefruit, jackfruit, ornamental plants and raising poultry. The products are sold as soon as they are made thanks to her effective application of digital technology platforms to introduce and promote the products. The profit is hundreds of millions of VND each year.

Ms. Hue shared: At a time when there were no smartphones or social networks, agricultural products had to be brought to the market or waited for people to come to my house to buy them. In recent years, when it was time to harvest fish, poultry or fruits in my garden, I posted on Facebook, Zalo, TikTok with my phone number so that everyone would know, and anyone who was interested could contact me in advance. Since applying technology, my family's agricultural products have been sold many times faster, and I have gained new loyal customers.

For more than 2 years now, livestreaming on Facebook and TikTok has become a daily job for Mr. Luong Chi Bao's family in Kim Son town, Que Phong district. This Thai ethnic family has been successful in promoting sour meat products on social networks. With a Facebook page and a TikTok channel with many followers, each livestream has hundreds of "eyes" watching, the product is quickly accessible to consumers.

Mr. Bao said: “Every day, my family makes dishes such as sour meat, beef stew, pickled bamboo shoots... in which my mother is the main cook, I set up the equipment to livestream, while processing, I chat and interact with viewers. Many people found the process delicious, clean, and the way of talking charming, so they liked it and placed orders. The consumption of these dishes has increased 2-3 times since applying the technology.”

Towards a transparent production, helping to increase profits

As for Mr. Duong Van Toan in Hong Thap hamlet, Nghia Loc commune, Nghia Dan district, with the desire to develop the family economy as well as create jobs and increase income for local people, in 2021, he boldly borrowed 450 million VND to grow oyster mushrooms. This is the first mushroom growing model in the commune.

Talking about the opportunity to grow mushrooms, Mr. Toan said that he has a passion for clean agricultural products, regularly watches agricultural programs, reads newspapers and magazines about new models and good practices to accumulate more experience. At the same time, he directly goes to mushroom production facilities to grasp the situation, and only when he finds it feasible does he return to apply it in his hometown.

Mr. Toan said: After harvesting, oyster mushrooms are imported to wholesale markets, traders, and clean food stores in the province at a price of 30,000 - 40,000 VND/kg. Growing oyster mushrooms is a sustainable direction when it has stable output and income, creating jobs for local people. More importantly, this is a green economic model, utilizing by-products in production to create clean, environmentally friendly products.

"In the near future, I plan to expand the production scale, continue to borrow money from the bank to buy more machinery, expand the workshop, especially buy automatic blanking machines, not manual as at present, from there I hope that the output will be increasingly increased. At the same time, to expand the product, we also plan to put the product on the market, sell via social networks... to help increase production profits", Mr. Toan shared.

With the support and companionship of all levels of the association, farmers are increasingly interested in applying digital transformation in production and business; focusing on using e-commerce platforms, online sales channels, direct interactive sales (livestream) ... to promote and consume products. Thereby, contributing to increasing income and creating more jobs for rural workers.

In recent times, farmers' associations at all levels have coordinated with other levels and sectors to organize many training courses on science and technology and information technology knowledge to create conditions for tens of thousands of farmer members to apply scientific and technological advances in production, business and product promotion and consumption.

Farmers' Associations at all levels have focused on combining vocational training, transferring science and technology with supporting loans from the Farmers' Support Fund, project program capital, and model capital to support and guide farmers in building agricultural production models applying new science and technology, creating products according to the value chain, and solving employment for workers. In 2023, the Associations at all levels supported the construction of 168 new effective economic development models.

Digital transformation in agriculture is an inevitable trend of modern agricultural production. It not only contributes to improving product quality but is also an opportunity to move towards a transparent production, helping to increase profits.

In order to support members, farmers and production establishments to gradually approach and apply digital transformation in production and business, Farmers' Associations at all levels have focused on disseminating policies on digital economic development; training and guiding members and farmers on sales methods on e-commerce platforms.
