When the rainy season comes, National Highway 46B passing through Nguoc Mountain, Thanh Chuong District often experiences serious landslides. The landslide treatment project under construction here will help eliminate the traffic black spot in Nguoc Mountain.
Nguoc Mountain is located along the Lam River in the area of Thanh Ngoc and Ngoc Son communes (Thanh Chuong). It has 3 peaks, 109m high. National Highway 46B through Nguoc Mountain is quite dangerous because one side is a high mountain and the other side is a deep river. During the resistance war against the US, the route through Nguoc Mountain was fiercely bombarded by the enemy. Today, this route is still a traffic black spot. In particular, in 2020, Nguoc Mountain had a serious landslide with a length of nearly 2 km, completely blocking National Highway 46B. After each landslide, the authorities have handled and resolved the incident, such as blasting rocks, erecting steel nets, embanking rivers, making ditches, adjusting roads... The construction site is located in Thanh Ngoc commune (Thanh Chuong). According to construction units, machinery and equipment are currently working quite smoothly. During the process of cutting the mountain, if large rocks are encountered, a permit will be obtained from the authorities to blast rocks. Photo: Huy ThuNguoc Mountain will be sloped in steps (from 2 to 6, 7... steps) depending on the location and height of the mountain to prevent landslides. Power lines on the mountain that affect the construction work will be moved up. Photo: Huy ThuSome solid concrete sections blocking the riverbank of Highway 46B have been demolished for construction. There are large rocks that rolled down the mountain into the river, not stuck on the road. People and vehicles passing through here need to observe carefully. Construction units also need to increase water spraying to prevent dust and environmental pollution. Photo: Huy ThuTo ensure the safety of life and property of traffic participants, every day from 7am - 11am, 2pm - 5pm, construction units have erected barriers on National Highway 46B through Nguoc Mountain, prohibiting people and vehicles from passing at specific times, and opening the barriers every 15 minutes. Strictly following the regulations of the construction site will contribute to maintaining general safety for everyone. For that reason, when the Department of Roads had a policy to handle this section, the District People's Committee actively coordinated to clear the site and hand over the clean site to the investor for implementation. The completed project will help vehicles to travel through this section more conveniently, especially when the rainy season comes". Photo: Huy ThuHandling landslides in Nguoc mountain. Video: Huy Thu
