Memorial service for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong

The state funeral for Comrade General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will take place over two days, July 25th and 26th. Nghe An Newspaper will broadcast live the memorial service starting at 7:00 AM this morning (July 25th).

General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was born on April 14, 1944, in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi. After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated care of the Party, the State, leading professors and doctors, and his family, due to his advanced age and severe illness, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38 PM on July 19, 2024 (corresponding to the 14th day of the 6th lunar month of the Year of the Dragon), at the Central Military Hospital 108 in Hanoi, at the age of 80.

The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss to the Party, the State, the people, and his family. To express our sorrow and remembrance of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to organize a state funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss to the Party, the State, our people, and his family.

The memorial service for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the National Funeral Home, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong Street, Hanoi, from 7:00 AM to 10:00 PM on July 25th and from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM on July 26th.

The memorial service for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was held at 1 PM on July 26th. The burial took place at 3 PM on the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi.

The memorial service and funeral ceremony for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong were held simultaneously at the Reunification Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and at his hometown in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi.

During the two days of national mourning (July 25th and 26th), government agencies, offices, and public places will fly flags at half-mast and will not organize any public entertainment activities.

Hanoi City Police announced that, to ensure security and order, people visiting the memorial site of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong should bring their citizen identification cards or use the VNeID application to pass through checkpoints. At these checkpoints, police have installed QR code scanners for easy access.
