Funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong
The State funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will take place over two days, July 25 and 26. Nghe An Newspaper will broadcast the funeral live starting at 7am this morning (July 25).
General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was born on April 14, 1944, in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi city. After a period of serious illness, despite the dedicated treatment of the Party, the State, a group of leading professors and doctors, and the wholehearted care of his family, due to old age and serious illness, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong passed away at 1:38 p.m. on July 19, 2024 (June 14, Giap Thin year), at the 108 Central Military Hospital, Hanoi, at the age of 80.
The passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss to the Party, the State, our people and his family. To express condolences and commemorate General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, the Government of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front have decided to hold a State funeral for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the National Funeral Home No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong, Hanoi, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. on July 25 and from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on July 26.

The memorial service for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at 1:00 p.m. on July 26. The burial ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. the same day at Mai Dich Cemetery, Hanoi.
The funeral and memorial services for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong will be held at the same time at Thong Nhat Hall, Ho Chi Minh City and at his hometown in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi.
During the two days of National Mourning (July 25 and 26), agencies, offices, and public places will fly flags at half-mast and no public entertainment activities will be organized.
Hanoi City Police said that to ensure security and order, people visiting General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at various locations must bring their citizen identification cards or use the VNeID application to pass through checkpoints. At the checkpoints, the police have arranged QR code scanners for people to easily operate.
