Ukraine issues new statement on readiness to negotiate with Russia.
An advisor to the Ukrainian president said that the country is ready to negotiate with Russia on the basis of international law.
According to RIA Novosti, the Ukrainian news agency Strana quoted Mikhail Podolyak, advisor to the President's Office of Ukraine, as saying that Ukraine is ready to negotiate with Russia on terms based on international law.
"Negotiations are certainly necessary, but Ukraine needs to make it clear: Let's negotiate on terms based on international law," said Ukrainian presidential advisor Podolyak on July 30.
Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien said on July 30 that the United States recognizes it cannot single-handedly guarantee Ukraine's success in its confrontation with Russia.
"I completely agree that we cannot win this conflict alone," O'Brien told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
Mr. O'Brien added that Washington is working with allies in Europe and is striving not only to increase support for Ukraine, but also to ensure that this aid allocation will be spent “reasonably.”
According to O'Brien, the U.S. and its NATO allies are beginning to develop a new strategy for deeper engagement with Russia.
For its part, Russia has repeatedly expressed its willingness to resolve the Ukrainian conflict through diplomatic means. However, Kyiv has previously imposed a ban on negotiations at the legislative level and ignored Moscow's statements about its readiness to engage in dialogue.
